The UBC Statistics First-Generation Mentorship Program supports the academic and career development of first-generation university students by connecting them with mentors who are upper-level undergraduate or graduate students in Statistics.
What is a first-generation university student?
A first-generation university student is a student whose parent(s)/legal guardian(s) and siblings have not completed, nor are in the process of completing, a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent professional program. This means they are the first person in their family to attend a college/university with the goal of obtaining a bachelor’s degree.
Become a Mentor
As a mentor you will gain the type of mentorship experiences that are important for career development (e.g., when applying for jobs or scholarships). Our events will provide opportunities to network with other students and faculty members.
The stipend of selected mentors will be $35.13/hr for up to 13.5 hrs per mentee.
Who is eligible? Mentors can be upper-level undergraduate or graduate students pursuing a degree in Statistics. They can mentor more than one student. Please note that this is an in-person program.
